Life is Great !

Thanks to WPHS for those great years.  Sorry we are unable to attend, we will be in Hawaii for three weeks.  We have homes in Tequesta, Florida and Warwick, NY and would love to hear from any classmates near us.   (Note: Lou's wife is Diane D'Aquanni '63.)

Looking Forward

I am so looking forward to seeing people I knew from 50 years ago and meet the people from other buildings that I only passed in the hallways or on the campus briefly.  Remembering and meeting up with old friends is a source of great joy for me.  My friend Diana Schiavo and I go back to about kindergarten and we still see other and communicate often.  We will be attending together, hanging out just like in the old days, but now there is no curfew, only the self imposed one.  Note to Bill Gould:  I remember you from H.S. but not sure we had any classes together.  Your note is so beautifully written and so very true.  Hope to meet up at the reunion.

Mary Ellen McCaffrey Clegg remembers

I transferred into WPHS and joined WPHS62 at the beginning of Jr year. My first memory is the hurricane that closely coincided with the opening of school, and the inauguration (one might say "baptism) of the new building. Does anyone else remember that????   The glass corridors between C and D leaked and flooded. Classes were suspended for a while so repairs could be made. In my head I still hear a song refrain, "Judi drownded in the CD corridors!"

John Berger + Corvette Mania

To Jan Nielson

My twin brother John is a Corvette enthusiast also. He had a 1965 white convertible, 327 solid lifter 365 HP version. Very quick.

20 years ago he became a sanctioned race driving instructor, and got a 1997 Camaro, with after market work, 550 HP. Ran it at Lime Rock, CT and other tracks. Ten years and just oil and brake pads. More reliable than average family street car.

Sold it and got a Z06, tricked out with twin turbos, 808 HP. Pulled from 75 to 150 MPH the way a normal muscle car pulls from 20 to 50 MPH. Scary. Also very unreliable, just the opposite of the Camaro. Had it detuned to normally aspirated 700 HP.

You should phone him and trade Corvette stories.  [phone # sent to Jan]

Ask him what I bought brand new in 1967 and sold in 1972 for $1000 when I went back to business school.

Hello Fellow Tigers

Jan Nielsen here. Thought I'd give you a synopsis of the last 50 years. During my last two years at WPH I took up flying as a hobby, one that would become my lifelong career. My college years found me at Michigan State where I continued my flying and pursued a degree in Industrial Management. Unfortunately the Vietnam War disrupted college for 3 years.

After graduation I moved to Venice, Florida, where I met and married Bonnie, my wife of 40 years.  In 1972 we moved to Tampa, where my passion for flying became a 38 year career as a Corporate Pilot.  In 2004 I took early retirement from Tampa Electric Company and moved to Tallahassee where I flew for the State of Florida,  Bureau of Aircraft. I had the distinct privilege of flying Governors Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist.

In 2011 Bonnie and I permanently retired. I am now free to  follow my "other passion", Corvettes. This photo was taken recently at a "Tallahassee Cruisin' Corvettes" cruise to Honey Lake Plantation for lunch.

We look forward to catching up with you all in September.
