Mariann Abbate of Rosewell GA passed away on March 11, 2011. Born September 12, 1944 to Louis and Jenny Abbate. She was a graduate of White Plains High School. Mariann retired from the accounting Dept of Sears and Robuck after 25 years. She leaves behind her companion of 20 years Jean Murdock, a brother Anthony and wife Eda. Also nieces and nephews. Services were held in Rosewell GA.

Carol Anne was my cousin, and she played the bells on the footbal field and in the band.  She and her family lived in Peru NY, upstate  near the Adirondack Mts.  She was a nurse in the area and was 50 when she passed.  Gary Ackerly

Upon returning from a stay in Europe, Clarinda was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She moved to Cooperstown NY to be with her brother Charles.  She passed away in September of 1977.

She enjoyed a satisfying teaching career guiding classes of elementary school children to develop and grow.  Stephanie was super neat, organized and good with numbers.  Through the years she excelled at tennis and later on knitting. She had the knack to keep everyone in her wide social circle on schedule to get together.  In her last year Stephanie did "what she needed to do" to battle cancer with courage and determination.Stephanie will be in my heart forever and I'll cherish her memory.

RISER, MARCIA DICKINSON - age 64, of Oak Ridge,TN a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 9th surrounded by her loved ones at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Marcia was born on September 18, 1944 in New York City, and spent her childhood in White Plains, NY. After graduating as a math major from Ohio University, Marcia married her lifelong partner and high school sweetheart, Gary Riser, on December 30th, 1966. They first moved to Oak Ridge in 1967. During her early years in Oak Ridge, Marcia's primary job was the one she most enjoyed - being a mother and caring for her children. She pursued additional education in accounting, and later worked as an accountant for many small partnerships and as the controller of PAI Corporation. Marcia was very active in the community and spent many years dedicating her services to the Childbirth Education Association and the YWCA. She also supported many other community organizations over the years, including school PTAs and the Knoxville Ski Club. In 1993, after 26 years in Oak Ridge, Marcia and Gary moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they learned to love the Southwest. Upon their full retirement in 1998, they sold their house and embarked on ten years worth of travels around the world. Most of their time was spent RVing full time in a large motor home. Marcia enjoyed her travels, seeing the beauty of the world and making many great friends along the way. She was proud to have spent time in all of the states, as well as most of the Canadian provinces. Marcia settled back into Oak Ridge this year with Gary, after a 15 year absence. She wanted a home to share with her children and grandchildren, and she returned to Oak Ridge because of the wonderful sense of community she felt here from all of her special friends. Marcia always enjoyed life and brought many smiles to those around her. She was very generous with the heartfelt love she spread among her family and friends, especially her four grandsons. She will be terribly missed. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents John and Mildred Dickinson. Marcia is survived by husband, Gary Riser of Oak Ridge; son, Greg Riser & wife Jennifer of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Gretchen & husband Joe Mauney of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Grant and Austin Riser, and Benjamin and Brandon Mauney; brother, Jack Dickinson and wife Camille of Madison, Wisconsin. A celebration of Marcia's life is being held at the Doubletree in Oak Ridge on Sunday, December 14, 2008 from 4:30 - 6:30. Bob and I were married at ages 20 and 19.  After the Marine Corps and Viet Nam we settled in Chicago and raised 4 kids (with a set of twins!).  We lived on the river in Algonquin IL and boating was a big part of our life.  Bob was a senior golf distribution manager for Wilson sporting goods.  He died in April of 2004 of liver disease while waiting for a transplant.  He never got to see his 4 grandchildren, but have no doubt he was well loved.   Cathy Dunphy

Andrea Seixas Forster, died in her sleep of lung cancer on February 8, 2008 at age 64 in her Hartsdale, NY home. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, she was predeceased by parents Jean Seixas and Irwin Forster, and sister Lee Seixas Forster. She will be deeply missed by the family she loved so much: her loving husband, Al, her devoted children and stepchildren and their spouses, Jessica Lee Seixas (John) Fulton, Joshua Seixas Howard Fausty (Edvige Giunta), Robert (Kathleen) Ossip and Ron (Amy) Ossip; and by her grandchildren, who added so much joy to their Bubbe's life: Big Emily, Little Emily, Samantha, Muriel, and Matteo. She was a devoted cousin, niece, friend; a trusted advisor, mentor, confidant. A graduate of Dean Junior College and Suffolk University, Boston, she did graduate work at the Bank Street School of Education. An early childhood educator, she helped raise dozens of children in her home childcare center and kept in close contact with many. Cary's passing was reported to us by his brother Malcolm, '63.  There was no further detail.

Gail succumbed to cancer in 2007 after retiring from teaching, she and her husband George resided in the Syracuse area. They had two sons and one grandchild.

David's widow Nancy told us that David died of cancer in 2007.  David and Nancy were both professional musicians, had raised a family, and had lived in Queens, New York City for many years.

After hearing rumors about her being sick I set out to find her but not successful. Today 2/26/14 , I discovered in a search engine Elaine B. Hazelwood Clark died January 6, 2014.
Elaine and I attended Battle Hill School together and later for a short period of time worked at the same company. After her marriage I lost contact with her. I do know that she was a devout congregant at her house of worship. I have no further information.

It is with great sadness that I am letting you know that after a long and hard fought battle with leukemia and its complications, Roger passed away last night.  While we are sad, we were blessed to have the opportunity to say goodbye and know that Roger is resting easier now.  Roger's charm, mischievous sense of humor, and obvious love for his family, especially his 8 grandchildren, will be greatly missed.

John A. Lukacovic, 55, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14,1999. He was born Feb. 6,1944 in White Plains, NY. The son of Nicholas and Helen Anderson Lukacovic. He was a real estate agent for Eagle Realty in Cape Coral, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Anne Lukacovic of Lansing; brother, Nicholas (Barbara) Lukacovic, Jr. of Cape Coral, FL; sister, Maureen (John) Firmes of Cape Coral, FL; brother, Donald (Rosemary) Lukacovic of East Fort Myers, FL and sister, Gail Lukacovic of Cape Coral, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Lukacovic.

Richard's stepmother Kathleen told us that Richard died in a car accident in 1969.

Gene passed away on August 1, 2012. He was a resident of McDonough, GA . Gene and his wife,  Jeanette, were married for 45 years.  He and Jeanette had three children, two of whom predeceased Gene. We do not know any additional details of Gene's life

Carol E. Nyegaard, an Atlanta, Ga and former White Plains resident, died March 18, 2017 at the age of 72. She was born December 12, 1944 in White Plains to the late Mildred and O.V. Northcutt.

On August 2, 1990 she married Edward Nyegaard. Carol worked for many years for the Chicago Title Company, retiring in 1999.

She is survived by her husband Edward and her children, Michael (Laura) Peller of White Plains and Jeffrey (Megan) Peller of Alpharetta, Ga, her stepchildren, Julie Nyegaard and Eddie Nyegaard, both of the Bronx. She is also survived by her brother Kenny Northcutt of White Plains, her grandchildren, Austin Peller, Christopher Peller, Melissa Peller, Roarke Peller, Vincent Somuk and Katherine Peller and two nephews.

Rita became a nurse and later was certified as a nurse anesthetist.  She and her husband lived in Pennsylavania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia with their two children.  She passed away from an illness in January of 2008.  Frederick News Post

Peter J. Patch, 71, of Holliston, MA passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his home. Born in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Bianca (Provvedi) and Richard Patch. He was the husband of Mary (Roszkowski) Patch of Holliston.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Marc Patch of Framingham, MA Kandis Patch of North Carolina, and his daughter-in-law Lillian (Tromp) Patch of Rhode Island; two brothers, Todd Patch and his wife Suzanne of CA, Raymond Patch and his wife Dorothy of Peabody; a cousin, Peter Notch and his wife Barbara of NY; a great-uncle, Joe Sarafin, sister-in-law, Michele Gall and her late husband Gordon; brother-in-law, Walter Roszkowski and his wife Margie, all of CT. He also leaves behind a grandson, Jesse Lee Patch and his grand-dog, Sampson. He is predeceased by a brother-in-law, Stanley Roszkowski.

"Bunny" died in May of 2011 from a relapse of cancer.  Robert Myerson attended our 50th reunion memorial service on September 29, 2012 and wrote what appears below.  It was read at the service.

"All of you knew her before I met her again for the first time.  Our lives intertwined many times before we met and as I look back over 45 years of marriage, I think how blessed I was to have been her husband.  Her essence was huge and what her friends, colleagues, patients and family saw in her, I was privileged to experience on a daily basis.  Bunny honored me with that every day we were married, her time was much too brief for someone that had such a positive impact on so many people."

This was the dedication to the book I crafted that mirrored my life with a very special person.  From the letter I received from Bunny asking for my telephone number, I began to see a quality I could not pass up in a potential life partner.  I was not wrong.  Our relationship grew and we became one.  As in all relationships, ours was not perfect, but it survived the worst of times when Andria passed away.  Together we created a journey filled with mutual respect and trust.  I could not have had, or dreamed of having a better mate.

Gene E. Pentenero, a longtime resident of White Plains, passed away on Saturday January 16, 2016.

Gene, beloved husband, father and grandfather was born July 12, 1943 to the late Albert and Elsie Pentenero. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Ann G. Pentenero, his loving daughter, Gina A. Romano-Sahakian, son-in-law John Sahakian and two adoring grandchildren, Anthony (A.J.) and Nicholas Romano. He is predeceased by his nephew Kenneth Dinger.

Gene was raised in Scarsdale and attended private schools in Massachusetts and graduated White Plains High School. He worked for the City of White Plains Parking Authority and retired from the Westchester County Parks Dept.

Gene’s greatest love, pride and joy was his family, and being surrounded by them. He was better known as “Bo-Bo” to all the children and families that came to “Nee-Nee” and “Bo-Bo’s” house. His second passion was classic “loud” cars, especially “The Pumpkin”, his 1948 sunset-orange Ford Coupe. He loved his cruise nights and car shows with his wife by his side and all of his car buddies. Gene always said, “Keepin’ Grandpa’s Dream Alive”. He was a member of Shiftmasters of Westchester II and Rock ‘N’ Rods of NY.

Louise was a clinical research physician with Eli Lilly for 31 years, retiring in 2006. Sally succumbed to a relapse of lung cancer in September 2004. She was married to her husband, Elliot, for 37 years. After marriage they lived in Philadelphia while Elliot was in medical school, after graduation they moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where they lived for the remainder of Sally's life. They had no children.

Margaret had settled in White Plains, was active with her church, and was a member of the Voices of Trinity of the Trinity United Methodist church.  She survived her husband, they raised a daughter, Whitney, and had many family members in the Westchester area.  Margaret had retired from the US Postal Service.  She died in February of 2000.   The Journal News

Peter left WPHS before our graduation to serve our country in the military.  He was a resident of Stuart, Florida for many years.  He was on a trip to Augusta, Georgia the weekend of June 7, 2015 when he fell ill and was taken to a local hospital where he passed away.

Martha earned a BA degree in physical therapy from Northeastern and had a long career specializing in the treatment of children with neurological diseases. She and Bruce Hamill were married, settled in Maryland, and raised a son, Jonathan. She earned a Master's degree in human development in 1980.  She was chief physical therapist for Johns Hopkins Hospital and taught at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She passed away unexpectedly of cancer in November of 2002.   The Howard County Nesw

We received the following note from Patrick Wheeler's daughter, Christy Wheeler-Brandt: My father, Patrick Wheeler, passed away on February 19, 2014.  He had been to the doctor the day prior and was told he had heartburn but then had a massive heart attack the next day.  He was a wonderful man and we were lucky to have him as a father.

After earning a Masters degree in English literature, and embarking on a PhD in the same field, Bill switched to law.  Upon graduation and passing the bar he served as a  representative in the Oklahoma State Legislature for several terms.  When he retired from politics he started a public relations firm which proved very successful.  During this time he took flying lessons and earned his pilot's license.  At the age of 55 Bill decided to go to seminary and was ordained as an Episcopal priest.  Bill was serving as pastor to a church in a small town outside Tulsa when he died in the crash of a plane he was piloting in October 2007.   Claire Laton-Taylor

Jamie had settled in Connecticut and raised two sons with his wife Judith.  He retired from IBM after 34 years of service and was a volunteer for Senior Net. He died of a stroke in November, 2007.  Memorial Networks

Stephen passed away on February 20, 2017 in Connecticut.  The cause was not reported. After WPHS he went on to college and received several advanced degrees, becoming a professor of microbiology at Yale university.  He became known worldwide after developing the now used standard test for E. Stephen C. Edberg, a microbiologist whose contribution to global well-being was his development of the "Colilert" test for the detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli (E. coli) in drinking water, died on February 20th in Middletown, CT. He was 72.

Dr. Edberg was Professor Emeritus of Laboratory Medicine at Yale University. He was the Director of Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Yale-New Haven Hospital from 1981-2010.

Dr. Edberg received the following degrees: B.A. Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, 1967, Major in Biology, Minor in Chemical Engineering; M.A. Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York, 1968, Major in Bacteriology; Ph.D. State University at Buffalo Medical School, 1971; Post-doctoral, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, 1972.

He received an M.A. (Honorary), Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, 1989. The same year he received Charles W. Bohmfalk Teaching Prize, Yale University School of Medicine, Yale University, First Award Winner.

Dr. Edberg's research activities led to tests and technologies widely used in clinical microbiology laboratories. For example, he developed constitutive enzyme testing for rapid identification of gram-negative species, the refinement of immunoglobulin coating of latex particles for the direct detection of antigens, and the use of hydrolysable substrates to rapidly identify bacterial and mycotic isolates within one hour.

His most significant contribution to global health was his development of the "Colilert" test for the detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli in drinking water. In 2008 Dr. Edberg received the Becton Dickenson (BD) Award for Research in Clinical Microbiology. This award, which has been supported by BD Diagnostic Systems for 30 years, recognizes a distinguished scientist for research accomplishments with important applications in clinical microbiology.

Dr. Edberg, a champion for safe drinking water, testified before Congress on the quality and environmental impacts of bottled water in 2008. He believed that obesity and diabetes were true public health concerns, and that drinking more water could be very beneficial to a healthier diet.

Dr. Edberg who was born in New York, NY and grew up in Bronx, NY is survived by his loving family.

Frank lived in Scarsdale and passed away in May, 2017 at the age of 72. He served in the United States Navy and later worked for the NYPD, then as a correction officer for the state of NY. Frank is survived by his  three children, his sister and five grandchildren.

He passed away peacefully in November of 2017 after a 46-year battle with Multiple sclerosis. He was surrounded by a loving family: wife Robin, two daughters, two granddaughters as well as others, especially a 40 years care-giver Grace Smith. 

Beeba, as he liked to be called, was a great athlete @WPHS, a hellacious defenseman both at WP and on a 4-year scholarship at West Virgina. All the more remarkable as he was born without toes. His Dad had made special arches.

He did social work in WP before moving to Virginia to become Teen Director at the Jewish sCommunity Center. His love for dogs eventually motivated him to open up a grooming shop which he ran for 22 years. He also bred and showed Standard Poodles gaining many Best in Show Championships. Beeba also got involved in local Virginia boxing matches as a ringside official and grew into a world-class boxing judge, ultimately becoming Boxing Commissioner for Virginia.

He loved to joke and sing any chance he got. He was the center of attention and kept people laughing as much as he could. He was followed and supported by amazing physicians and other medical professionals. The family thanks all of them, and is especially grateful to the entire staff of Bon Secours Community Hospice House.

Jane died peacefully of lung disease in December of 2017 with her husband and daughter holding her in New Canaan, Connecticut. She had the gift of a lung transplant in 2015.

She graduated from St. Clare's Nursing school in 1964 and one night cared for a car accident patient, John, whom she would later marry. After White Plains Hospital, she was the corporate nurse for Nestle Foods for 19 years and excelled at caring for everyone who passed through her office. After retirement she enjoyed family and friends and the many dogs her children brought home.

She is survived by her husband,two children and two grandchildren.

We recently learned that Betsy passed away in March 2018 after a long battle with cancer.  

Gary died on, of all days, September 11, 2018. I lost a best friend whom I'd known since the 3rd grade, the longest of anyone outside of my family. We had a tradition of phoning on our birthdays. It's now awfully sad that the last two times he was in the Atlanta area scouting for a possible relocation, we could not find the time to meet. We were always optimists about the next time. 

He had fought a rare cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, for 8 years prior, going through marrow transplants which were successful for two remissions. He had a gentle kind soul and the world will be a poorer place without him. In life as in his death, he showed a calm fearlessness, strength of moral character, and a clear sense of right and wrong that was inspiring. 

After college at Tufts he started a graduate program in psychology but didn't finish. He married Abby, a '64 from WPHS, bought 40 acres near Bangor, Maine, built a house, and lived off the land. He was always an off-the-grid guy. The marriage to Abby ended- Gary married Elizabeth and had two children, Lucia and Shane. Gary's two grandkids are Lucia's children, one of them is named after Gary.

He had various jobs, including teaching Transcendental Meditation, but he worked out a way to have a few months off every year. He spoke fondly of his travels to Mexico where he studied both the culture and the language. Gary was a talented carpenter and craftsman, did remodeling jobs, and roofing work for insurance companies. These assignments could last several months.

After his marriage to Elizabeth ended, Gary had three long-term relationships successively. In that sense, he was never single but he did not marry again. Gary had lived a lot of his life in Fairfield, Iowa and it was there that the cancer relapsed with a vengeance. He died soon after in Iowa City at The University Hospital. His sister Joni related that it says a lot about Gary when all three women in his post-marriage relationships and his ex-wife attended his Life Celebration. Gary is also survived by younger twin brothers, Bruce and David.

Dick or Luke as he was known at WPHS died in May of 2019 at White Plains Hospital from breathing complications due to smoking. Born in Brooklyn and the eldest of six children he spent time in Chicago in the rough summer of '68, to Woodstock in '69, to the aftermath of 9/11 in NYC he seemed to sense the importance of it all. In the last 25 years of his life Luke stayed pretty close to home in White Plains with his longtime partner, Sheila Barnet. He had built and managed a software firm involved with small business pension fund management. 

On the morning of June 28, 2019, Nino V. Getts, 74, died quietly in his sleep.

Nino was born on Nov. 12, 1944 to William and Mary Riccardi Getts. He grew up in the Battle Hill area and was a nostalgic fan of the old White Plains, where he often sat on the steps of the old courthouse with friends  and walked Main St.

Nino graduated from White Plains High School in 1962. He studied song writing and music production at State University of New York. Nino had his own professional studio in his home. He’d been active to the end as a music instructor and a member of The Wanderers, a band that dated back to his youth. Nino enjoyed playing with many other bands in the tristate area as well as throughout Westchester County. Nino will be remembered, loved and missed by both his bandmates as well as his fans.

Music, traveling and animals were three great passions for Nino. He’d been to many countries over the course of his life—including Italy twice. In recent years his travels took him to Japan, Philippines, Italy and Finland.

Nino was a strong advocate for all animals. He cared for multiple pets over the years. Lionel the cat and Shuggie the rescue dog were the two guarding him at his bedside. Lionel is on Nino’s property with a wonderful new caregiver, and Shuggie is happy in the Hamptons with members of his dear friend Susie Singer’s family. His dedication to saving the lives of animals by exposing cruelty and violence to helpless animals was well known to his Facebook Friends.

Nino was loved by many, including family, students, neighbors and friends. He was known for his generosity, curiosity and helping when close ones needed him.

To hear him play, as part of the Wanderers, on the Saturday night of our reunion, was one of the highlights of the weekend.

Norman passed away in December of 2019 from pulmonary fibrosis in Cumberland, Rhode Island. His career was involved with social work and he also loved to sing. He was in various choirs and also performed as a soloist.  He is survived by children, grandchildren and his wife Nina Galpeer Danielson, also a '62 WPHS classmate.

Born and raised in White Plains, New York, Norman was a kind, wonderful and caring man.  He earned his Bachelors degree at Skidmore College and his MSW at Simmons College.  As a social worker, he was dedicated to his clients.  He was also a terrific singer with a beautiful bass baritone voice.  He sang in choirs as well as solo performances.  Music was very important to his life, he was at Woodstock in 1969 and saw some of the greatest performers of his generation. Norman and Nina were married for 44 years and it was love at first sight and until his last breath.  They shared a love for music and singing, as well as traveling, golfing, boating, and watching nature shows together.  Norman loved Nina and his family more than anything else.

Norman lit up the room with his beautiful smile.  He kept his wonderful, dry humor until the very end.  Norman was always there in a crisis; reliable and strong.  He was an authentic person who, for better or worse, was always unapologetically himself, while providing unconditional love at the same time.  He was a peaceful, sensitive, and special soul.  He remained strong and protective until the very end.

Norman was a wonderful husband, father, and “Pop-Pop” to his family.  He was the son of Nels and Bertha Danielson (deceased), and is predeceased in death by his loving brothers Nels and Harvey Danielson.  Norman is survived by his loving wife Nina of Cumberland, his sister Sylvia Shay of North Carolina, his son Adam Danielson and his wife Jamie of Harwich, son Ari Telega of Cumberland, and daughter Tanya Roza and her husband Jason of Harwich.  He is also survived by his five loving grandchildren: Justin, Logan, Brooklyn, Benjamin and Sara, all of Harwich, and his loving nieces and nephews.

We received word that Cori passed away in late December, 2019.  She had announced her diagnosis of bone marrow cancer on her Facebook page in the Fall of 2018 and that she was undergoing treatment for it. 

A retired computer systems analyst, loving father, and inveterate poker player, Ed died Monday, January 20, 2020, of cardiac arrest. He was 75.

Universally hailed as a great guy, the longtime Mansfield resident actively and tirelessly contributed to his community. He was a charter member of the Mansfield Lodge of Elks, where he took up the helm as Exalted Ruler from 1985 to 1986 and worked as Secretary for more than 27 years. He also served on the Mansfield Board of Health from 1980 to 1991, the last two years as Chairman, in addition to serving on and chairing several Town Manager search committees.

A widower, he devotedly took care of his wife of 46 years, Gail Philbrook Rosenberg, during her long illness. When she died in 2014, he moved to Oak Point, a retirement community in Middleboro, MA, where he could be found riding around in his golf cart, attending poker games, calling Bingo, and spending time with his dear friends.

He was the Red Sox’s and the Patriots’ biggest fan (though he was thrilled when the Nationals won the last World Series). He had an impeccable sense of humor. He could rant about politics on Facebook better than anybody.

Ed was a tireless worker on the 50th reunion committee, was the driving force behind the Memorial Book we produced for the memorial service, and was on the Board of Directors for the charity company we set up as part of the reunion efforts. Since this website was built, he was also the main editor of this In Memoriam section. He was a good friend and will be sorely missed.

We were saddened to learn of Marion's passing away in 2014.

Jane Caveness Keleher, 77, beloved wife of John Keleher of West Hartford, passed away Tuesday June 15, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by family. She attended the University of Connecticut where she met John, her husband to be of 54 years. There she received a BS in mathematics and an MA in counseling. Later she also received a Doctorate in education from Central Connecticut State University. Jane spent her career as an educator, first as a math teacher and administrator for the Rockville/Vernon public schools, as well as teaching college classes at CCSU. After her retirement, she continued her career as a professor at York College in Queens, NY. Jane was an avid traveler and explorer; she had traveled extensively around six continents and loved learning and experiencing the different history and culture of the people around the world. She was a lover of her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially during the holidays and summers on the Connecticut shore. She will be remembered for the steady guidance of her family and the joy she gave them, especially during Christmas, which often started the day after Thanksgiving and included multiple Christmas trees, elaborate decorations, and her endless Santa cross stitch designs. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Peter Ramsdell Memorial scholarship fund of the Vernon Public schools or to a charity of choice.
