All Hail Neal Z.

Neal -

Please give yourself a standing ovation!
As I told you in person, the job you did organizing our WHPS 50th was exceptional. Indeed, the whole thing reminds me of Gen. Douglas MacArthur's speech to the Corps of Cadets at West Point; why get someone else to do the job, since they can't possibly do it as well. Unfortunately that burdens you with the assignment for as long as the class of '62 wishes to gather. Great for the rest of us; not so for you.
Your orchestration of the Saturday morning  Memorial Service was a master stroke. I would concur that it had a risk, i.e., it could turn into a maudlin affair and potentially dampen the evening's dinner/dance celebration. But it didn't. Instead, it seemed to pull the class even closer than we already were. The atmosphere during the evening was profound and electric. I hope you feel gratified; if you don't, I'd submit that you were the only one who felt that way.

A very special event

To echo Ed's sentiments, a huge thanks and big hugs to Neal, Barbara, Bruce and the Committee for organizing such a marvelous and memorable reunion. I'm so disappointed to have missed  the Charlie tribute at the high school, the game, last evening's festivities (Did you twist the night away?) as well as old friends who arrived Saturday.

Reunions are always a bit weird...a mirage of the past illuminating our present-day lives, reminding us of who we once were, how we have remained exactly the same, and how we have indeed changed. We are each other's witnesses...the people who knew us when. And the "when" was such an intense, passionate time! Beyond delight, there was for me a certain poignancy in the gathering. Now in our late sixties, still alive and able, we came to recapture sweet youth, and because we could. There was pride in our own survival, and gratitude. You could feel it in the room...

It was such fun to connect with some "kids" (yup, always) I had not known well at WPHS as well as with former chums. Hope there will be means for us to stay in touch...how about a WPHS62 Facebook page for posts/pics/updates?

Be well, all...hope your year is cool and joyful!!

Jan Snippe

Just before last night's revelries began, I received a video mesage to all of us from our classmate Jan Snippe who could not make it from Holland.  As you will see, Jan has stayed in touch with some of us.  Take a moment to watch.  I know he sincerely wanted to join us.

What a Blast !!

I just returned home from the Reunion.  What a fantastic time.  Neal my good friend, You did a phenominal job putting this together.  For those who attended, it was a pleasure re-connecting with you and we have to maintain and nurture those connections.  For those who could not attend, you missed one hell of a time.

We went to the Tigers - John Jay Patriots football game in the afternoon.  The Tiger unfortunately lost, dropping their record to 0-5.  Coach Harry Jefferson was at the game, but despite our pleading, would not offer the current coach his advice.  Harry looks great, by the way.

During halftime, we all assembled on the field to honor our classmate Charlie Jenkins.  (See the picture).  To end that part of the ceremony, we did a rousing "Rah, Rah, Rah for White Plains High School" cheer.  Yes, they still do that.  The current cheerleaders had no idea what "Satisfied" was.  Oh well.  The link to the full article at White Plains.Patch.com is: http://whiteplains.patch.com/articles/white-plains-class-of-62-returns-to-honor-classmate

Entertainment during the Saturday banquet was provided by "The Wanderers", featuring our own Frank Pasqualini and Nino Getts - they were fantastic and had almost everyone up dancing the whole night.  I can't believe that so many of us could get out there and do that!

All in all, the weekend was memorable.  As I commented to many classmates, "I'm glad the weekend is finally here, but I'll be sad when it's over".

Plan for the 60th in 2022!

Thanks from Pat

To everybody on the reunion committee who worked so hard on this event; first of all , even though I won't be able to make it to the reunion I want to thank you for all the hours of hard work you put into making this such a special occasion for the Class of 1962.  I can't tell you how special it has been for me to receive the e-mails that you have sent that prompted me to pull out my yearbook and reminisce over those so important years I spent at White Plains High School.  Of course there are those special teachers, and coaches, and fellow students that meant so much to me in my formative years, some of whom go back to my days in elementary school - these are people I will never forget.  I'm sorry I won't be with you, but I hope this will be a wonderful time for our class members to revisit an era that will always be special in our memories - first loves, great music, family, friends and coming of age.  There are periods of time in our lives that are somewhat foggy and that we might even want to forget, but memories of High School are indelibly etched into our memories.

No matter who is in attendance, no matter what happens over the next three days - this WILL be something we will never  forget.  We are deeply indebted to you for your efforts on our behalf.

Thank You for what you have done for us.
